    Sewing machine help

I'm new to hanging and even newer to the DIY gear thing. I'm looking to get a sewing machine and have found what I believe to be a good deal on Craigslist. It is for a Brother xr-9000. Does anyone have any thoughts/info on either this particular model or Brothers in general? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the guidelines post in my sig. Other folks have it helpful in assessing machines.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

well, my favorite is a Singer 15-91 I found in Goodwill in May of this year. It has a DOM of 14 Apr 1947, came with the cabinet and I picked it up for $75.00. Sixty four years old and it sews MUCH better than my new Singer. I picked up a White Rotary model 77 with a nicer cabinet at another Goodwill for only $25.00! It sews well, but not as nice as the 15-91. The deals are out there if you don't mind used equipment. Start slow and good luck. One word of caution....DIY can be addictive! good luck

I picked up a 1960's model 401A Singer just yesterday in a cabinet for $80. Seems to work fine, haven't had a chance to sew anything up, but it makes great stitches. Now if I can find a zipper foot and maybe a few more items, i will be in business

Thanks for the help guys. I decided to take a leap of faith and picked up the machine today. I'll see how it goes. At least now I can try this brave new world of DIY gear.
