    Camping/Hiking apps?

I know this is a hammock forum but a lot of people do camp and hike on this forum (hopefully I wont get to much grief for this). With that being said if there is/were an app for camping/hiking what would you like to see or have it do?

Would it just be a gear list with a weight tally?
Would it be a trip planner that will tell your loved ones or contacts where you are or going to be (GPS location)?

Just a thought. If you could give me a few ideas I would like to play around with building an app. If I can actually build one
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.

Gear list with weight in oz, gram, lbs, cost, comment/notes
Subtotals for weight of different cqtegories. Sleep, shelter, kitchen etc
    Customizable categories
Save specific gear list for specific trips chosen from master gear list
Email list to friends. Maybe an option for who is responsible for what gear

State and federal parks and trails
User created database of non govt camping sites. Like software for restaurants users add to content.

Topo maps via net and option to download Topo maps to internal memory

GPS create a trail you can backtrack
Drop pins on gps to mark points of interest
Gps send location to friends etc every 6 hours

As a kayaker, I would love to include waterways with put in and take out points as well as real time (or close to it) water levels and conditions.
I think this is a great idea! I might even consider paying for an app...

**** i wish I had a smart phone. broke and in college
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

Smile Free Android app, just for fun.

Not strictly related to camping, hammocking, or anything else for that matter, but a lot of fun:

    Google Sky Map

Turn it on, hold your phone so the back of it is pointed in any direction you like, and you see a map of the stars, planets, and constellations in that area.

I really enjoyed using it while hiking.

It runs off the phone's GPS feature, so no cell service required.
