I may not be coming, either.
I have some health issues that, unless they improve very quickly, will make this trip almost impossible for me. If I can't come, I may be hanging with Doctari closer to home if my health allows it. It would be a much easier bail-out for me if needed.
There's still the chance that things could improve, and I'm trying to stay hopeful, but I thought I should put this out there because I said I'd bring an insulated 5-gal jug for water. I'll still bring it if I can make it, but someone else may want to have one there just in case.

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver
Scott,
Sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself. I had a 5 gallon container of water which I kept in a plastic storage tub in my car last year, covered with an old sleeping bag. I also threw a couple of handwarmers into the storage tub. It stayed liquid, so this year I'll do something similar, maybe with two five-gallon bottles. It's water from a spring in the Cranberry Wilderness - very sweet.
I'm working on a pole system for my pulk, and have referred to your pulk video several times. Thanks!
Bonsai,
I hope your health allows you to join us. We had a adventure last year snowshoeing! If not possible for you to come, know you will be missed. Take care of yourself that's first.

Tim & Dave, thank you very much, and I'll miss both of you as well. I even bought a pair of snowshoes this year so I could come along on the hike! Ah, well...we'll just have to wait and see what happens...hopefully everything will work out.

There is a bit of snow on the ground, temp around 12 degrees. & still a few days left to get some real weather up there!
A note on water: to refill, in the visitors center, between the man's & woman's bathrooms is a "Janitors closet" with a high faucet for filling tall things like buckets & water coolers. The faucet has hot & cold water.

Hi Everyone. This is Home Run from Cincinnati. Even though I've been a ground dweller for quite a while, I tried a Hennessy out this past fall. Got to say, pretty nice. I don't have the winter setup for my hammock, but I'd like to join you at the Grayson Highlands and learn a little bit. Maybe bring my brother, he's got a Clark and first introduced me to 3 season hanging. I'm happy to help out with whatever, just let me know!
Thank you.
15 days to go gang, I hope everyone is ready.
Some reminders: It will very likely be pretty cold, the last 4 or 5 days has averaged around 30 or lower. There may be snow, although as of a few minutes ago there is only a small remnant of the light snow fall from a few days ago. I know this goes without saying, but I will say it anyway: look after each other! If someone is disoriented, they may be near hypothermic, they need to get warmed up NOW! As I will not be there*, If anyone starts undressing, they may be getting hypothermic. I know it's hard to think of it being important in sub freezing temps, but be sure to drink enough water!!! And, Alcohol will make you "Feel" warmer, but what it is doing is allowing blood to flow to your extremities, thereby COOLING your core, which is a BAD thing! For verification, see the episode of Mythbusters covering that issue.
And, most important of all, HAVE FUN!!!
Gary / Doctari.
*Doctari tends to overheat, even at sub freezing temps, so has to take off clothing to avoid Hyperthermia. Yes, he knows he is weird!
