    TheXringHunt,

I started making one of these over the weekend and had a question about the order of assembly. Do you attach both side pieces, roll/sew the end channel hem, and then attach the bugnet? That's how it made sense to me.

Also, do you run grosgrain for the entire length for the footbox/shelf piece and then include that in the end channel hem similar to how the zipper gets included into the end channel seam?

    Sincerely,
    Dave-O

Just wondering: the WBBB XLC is a 12" with the "side-panel" parts replaced by mesh. Would it work to do something like that with this plan as well?

I guess you'd need to make larger seam allowances for rolling the mesh up a bit before stitching, but as to structural integrity it shouldn't make ahuge difference - right?

No reason why it wouldn't work with the mesh

Mesh isn't strong enough to support the footbox!

on the XLC, the BOTTOM of the footbox (and the shelf) are fabric. The left side strip and the footbox part that's on top are mesh as far as I can see.

Good mesh is stronger than one might think. Organza and tulle are extremely weak.
Try to rip some top end nano-see-um fabric. If it has been hemmed, it is almost impossible. At .09/yd., the nano-see-um is just a little thinner than any standard 1.1 fabric that we regularly use for hammocks. And mesh has been used for backpack pockets and other gear with little ill-effect.

I've always wanted to make a full hammock from mesh/nano-see-um. It'd provide 360* views from the hammock.
It would be breezy, and bugs may be an issue? But, IMO, it can be done. You'd need quilts, so some the 360* view would be taken away...

There was a story on the forum where a guy flipped his Hennessey (no-zip model) and was stuck face down in netting. The netting held. Took some gymnastics flips and kicks to re-flip the hammock.

When I said mesh I was speaking of noseeum. I could not elaborate I was on my phone. Noseeum is strong enough to use as the footbox but it isn't strong enough to take the stress. A piece of material will need to be sewn in at the top of the footbox to take the stress of the side wall.

You my friend have obviously never flipped a hammock upside down while still in it. The mesh holds more than it looks like is is able. Sadly I speak from experience.

Just wondering: Does anyone know how much seam allowance is included in those plans? I read that seam allowance is included - but I can't figure out how much.

Is there a video of the assembly process for one of these? If not any volunteers? I am a visual learner and I am having issues visualizing exactly how all this goes together.

The original post points to a few instructions; the pdf in the attachment in one of them.

    WarBird.pdf

The only major difference is that the pieces for the foot box / shelf are pieced together in this pdf while the plan in this post calls for one piece with a sewn on patch.

    Makes sense?
