It wasn't until I built one using the DYI plans that have been posted when I really got a feel on the design. (See my first post.) The big thing I ran into was getting the foot box side done right and I am not totally happy with the way it turned out. That is why I started to really look at the design carefully. When I put the mock up version together it really showed me that this design looks more like the original and it was way easier to sew the foot box side than it was on my first one using the other design patterns. Now I have a nice equipment hammock to use and I am trying to purchase up new supplies to build one using this design.

Also being in the Salt Lake area, I haven't found too many on here in the area. Let alone with a WBBB. It would be neat to see these side by side.

I just made a DL 1.1 with materials from DIY Gear Supply. Total cost was $80 for nylon, bugnet, zipper, webbing, grossgrain, amsteel for whoopies, shock cord, etc (ie, I bought more stuff than I really needed). If you're just looking for a hammock with no suspension (zylon/bugnet/zipper) you should be able to get the supplies for less than $50.

I weighed both the hammock and the tarp and it's just under 5 lbs. But I didn't build mine out of the lightest material either. I am sure one can get the weight down a lot more than I did.

With whoopies and shock cord tie-outs, my 1.1 DL weighs in at 24oz.

I'm working on a DL 1.1 right now. It's good to know an approx. finish weight. I'd like to see if I could get lighter though.

Could you help me please. I already have most of the material. I was building one off the black goat plans but thought the foot box panel was a bit incomplete. I really like what you have here, and am very excited to get started. But I am torn between the 9' and 10' models. I am almost 6'1" lol about 215lb which would you suggest?

    Thanks

IIRC, this design is supposed to cradle you with the least amount of fabric possible. I went 2 ft over my own height and it fits well. I see there is a 12ft pattern variety... interested if going bigger will offer more comfort ...

This design, with the footbox, means that an 8 footer should offer the "lay flat" roominess of an 11 footer gathered end.

    I'm 5'11" , 160# and the 8ft version feels great.

Could you please tell me what the seam allowances are for these plans? I would like to use flat felled seams but need to know if I need to add some for it.
