I dunno about the rest of you guys and gals, but I'll have my gear list open all the time staring at it trying to figure out ways to remove ounces and in general tweaking it and dreaming of days hanging in the woods with said gear... then a meeting invite or reminder pops up on my calendar and i'm quickly brought down to reality...
Anyone else continually look at their gear list and dream up ways to tweak it, add things/remove things, trim the ounces, etc?
sounds obsessive to me, but I bet you have company. ;-)
FWIW I bet that once you settle on trip conditions to allow for there is only a pound or two to play with unless one is willing to spend a lot of money and/or take significant durability hits.
Of course! All my gear gets weighed on my gram scale as soon as it comes into my house. The the weight, along with the measured volume, goes into my spreadsheet. I carry a copy of the spreadsheet on my Windows smartphone so I have it with me at all times!
BTW, I'm not obsessed!

Im almost in the same boat as MAD in the fact that I weigh any new gear the second it comes in and throw it into my spread sheet at geargrams. After that though I only look at the spreadsheet right before and after a trip to make some adjustments.
@Nothermark - a pound or two? Thats a quite lot of latitude right there for a 3 season kit. Also when swapping out to lighter gear you dont necessarily have to spend big $$$ or lose durability.
I've gone into obsessed mode recent when I got a scale. I weighed everything then put it into gram weenie app for the iPhone. Since then not so much as I haven't bought any new gear recently. Though I am waiting for a tarp and to purchase an UQ. So maybe when I get those two items I will again.

I find my purchases are now dictated primarily by my spreadsheets. I drop in the Manufacturer's weight specs and then I evaluate the pros and cons of the item compared to my existing item. If the pros outweigh the cons my trigger finger starts to itch.
The weight issue actually is reversed for my winter gear which I'm dialing in this year. Last year I went with an UL approach and I was uncomfortable in various areas. This year I'm going with comfort (for me) in the colder temps.... 0*F - 30*F. Because of this I've added about 2lbs to my base weight with warmer/bulkier and more practical items.

I am not to the point of tweaking yet, I am still trying to get my base list assembled. Going on my first overnight kayak fishing trip. So I have 3 lists to work on:
1. Kayak related
2. Fishing related
3. Camping related
I used several sample lists from the internet combined them, then started paring them down. Thought i was just about finished then I realized I had 3 mutlitools on the list and 4 different boxes of waterproof matches.
I just hope it all fits in the kayak (and it still floats) when i am finished.
