    First outting of season/under-quilt comments

Well, I had my first outing with my 4 year old last night. It didn't go so well. It got really cold, and rainy. Then his home-made hammock got wet. He got cold and came into my hammock.

The temps went down to the upper 30ies. I had my under-quilt on, but kept getting cold spots. I should have put my space blanket in it or something. It was my first time testing my new quilt in the "WILD". I wasn't very impressed and think I may stick with my HH-SS.

We ended up skipping our morning hike as a result of the rain and fog. Better luck next time I guess.

I have a few issues with down my under-quilt. The biggest issue is that it is bulky to pack. The next is that the wind just cuts through it. The third is that it is very delicate, and I am too abusive to my equipment, and will end up ruining it. I am debating if I will sell it or not. I do have other issues, but they are not technical.

were you using the JRB no sniveller on top & the nest below?
what kind of tarp were you using & did you have your tarp set up fairly close to the hammock to block wind?
what did you wear to sleep in?

Yes to sniveller/nest. I was using a McCat super tarp. Yes, it was properly hung, and as close to the hammock as I could get it. There wasn't much wind, but it would come up under the fly.

I had a t-shirt, 2 long sleeves, a fleece, a hat, and winter bicycle pants on.
