Camped out in the yard two days in a row :)

I have the pleasure of announcing that I slept in my hammock Friday night (Hennessey) and last night Warbonnett Traveler.

Why is that an accomplishment? I haven't slept in my hammocks since last year October . I always seemed to sleep when it's cold and since I do not have an adequate under-quilt it wasn't a pleasant experience.

I always seemed to miss sleeping in the summer when it's warm. Well I actually did it these past two nights. I set up the Traveler last night at 2 am and had to hotfoot it because it started to rain.

Thanks to the forum for the techniques that I learned because it helped me to set up quickly. I used the Marlin spike hitch on my stakes. I hung my tarp under the tarp line using prussic knots from which I hung a small caribiner and I had my trusty Dutch clips.

I still have the original equipment on my Hennessey but I utilized Marlin Spike hitches to connect it to the trees.

Will I sleep again tonight in my hammock? I don't know. It was fun though

I'm just learning about hammocks, how to hang them and how to make a shelter. Last night was my third night in a row sleeping in one.

Today, I went out to the park and hung around for a bit and got some strange looks.

I do a lot of yard camping....it is a good place to test your gear.. and play with your stuff.
Before long you will be able to sleep outside even on a work night...take your stuff in in the morning and go onto to work....

Glad to hear it was pleasurable once again!

I do the same thing Randy does. I set my set up in my yard multiple times so I get really good at setting it up. Recently got a new tarp and I am getting over the learn curve now. Next rain we get I am in the hammock testing.

Nice! As noted above, yard camping is a great way to try out changes and new gear. Had my first sleep on my DIY whoopie slings last night...was a little shocked when the wife and kids had to come and drag me out at 9:30...I'm a 6:00 am kind of guy! I'd call that success!

    Cheers

    Talking

My husband, Lump, and I are new to hammock hanging. He has completed a stand for us and we have begun sleeping in the backyard on the weekends. It has partly been as a study in temperatures and gear needed for comfort. We've been experimenting with minimal gear needed for comfort in warmer temps and have learned a lot in a short time. We expect to learn even more this winter.

Hangin' in the yard is a good way to just get used to hammocks. One less thing to keep you from getting a good snooze in the woods. Absolutely needed to self-educate and get the bugs out of your system before trying it halfway up a mountain. Practice makes perfect with getting a good hang and experimenting teaches you SO much about getting it right for your rig, weight, height and personal needs.

I don't care what the neighbors think and they know me well, so they aren't surprised
