    Double layer Q's

I have a WBBB 1.7 DL, thinking about lightening up my pack some.

I do not use pads anymore so I don't think that I need both layers. I have heard that the second layer is good for keep misquotes from biting through the fabric....Any input? I'm 175 so I could get away with a single 1.1 with whoopies and shed some weight over this DBL 1.7 with straps

I don't own a SL but have been tagged through the single layer portion of the WBBB DL - there is a small piece of the hammock on the entry side that is single layer. When I would throw my left arm above my head, I would always get tagged through it.

Granted, if you use a pad or UQ and are careful of your extremities not being either out of the UQ or out of the TQ, you will be fine.

YMMV, but I prefer the DL just for the piece of mind and ability to lay in the hammock whatever way is most comfy without worry - especially in warm weather (which is obviously when the bugs are the worst and I like to throw my UQ off to the side and/or throw the TQ off and my arms out etc.).

You could get a 1.1 dbl and save a lot of weight over the 1.7.

Owning a 1.7 BB DBL, 1.1 BB DBL, and a 1.7 single traveler IMHO I prefer the DBL over the single layer. I'm not sure why honestly but I just like the DBL better. I know that may sound funny but I just do. Hope that helps.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

My problem is ive never been bitten before in a hammock. in my SL hennessy or my old DL blackbird. so I dont think im the norm. but I do hear that the double layer is the way to go if your worried about bugs.
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......
