Cleaning your Rainfly

Hey guys, Is there a recommended way to clean the rainfly. I have one of the Guide Gear rainfly's and I can not seem to find the best way to clean these things. Got a few stains on it from being out in the elements. Thanks for the advice!

not sure myself. id try some dish soap and a hose, with a soft rag (like washing a car, but with your hand on the back side)

i may be way off, so dont listen to me till the experts chime in.

I just hose my tarps down,,and lite brush them off as they are wet,,then let them dry,,I don't worry about all the little marks here and there as the stains from bird droppings and trees are difficult if impossible to get out. Besides,,,battle scars are kinda nice. But I do try and store them as clean as possible and totally dry.

Anything that is sticky when wet can be 'flicked' off (when it drys) from the back-side. Anything that stays sticky (pine sap) needs to be dried out (baking powder works good), and then peeled off.

Something else you can try with general dirt/dust is a car-wash style foaming brush that you attach to your own garden hose. The car-wash soaps will be gentle enough on your tarp, and the brushwill give you a good scrub.

When finished do your car too!

The worst I had was purple bird poo. The neighbors have a mulberry tree and the birds take their after-dinner roost in my tree....over my tarp.
Just a spray with the garden hose is all it usually needs. Since silnylon is highly water resistant, the poo did not soak in, thankfully.

So stake out your tarp and give it a spray, should be enough. A damp cloth can help, I doubt you need any soap. But if you do, go gentle, aggressive scrubbing or caustic/abrasive cleaners will do damage. Laundry soap is fine.
Remember to let it dry completely before stowing it away.
