Chattooga River Gorge Labor Day 2011 w/ Vids!

Best clip w/ our camp site, in the damp wonderful (really seriously) woods. Nothing better than having nowhere else to be but sitting in your hammock under a tarp on a drizzly morning

You can find us on FB under @Hammock Mafia group, we're basically a men's Bible study group, I have been trying to get these guys out of the city and back to nature. It's funny how whenever God prepared the men in the Bible for the greatest works of their lives, He took many of them to the wilderness to commune w/ them first!

    Much love guys & gals!

@Timberrr do it brother! If they aren't doing Scouts, this is perfect to point them in the same direction. The lessons of taking care of each other, of self sufficiency, of carrying their life for a few days on their back... good stuff!

Only the 3 of us that were very experienced chose to carry over 30lbs, we got all the guys out there in the 23 - 27lb range w/ cheap-ish gear, and nobody was over I think 35lbs, even w/ extra food and gear for those guys just in case. We had time and energy to swim & play & be stupid after a moderate 6 mile hike, with 3 first timers!

Great idea Timberr, I used to be involved with an inner city youth group here in Jax and always loved getting them out of their element and experiencing something different. They learn that most about themselves in those times. Great time building relationships and showing them God's sheer awesomeness through creation.

I floated a trial balloon at a men's group last night and I got a volunteer with "a garage full of gear" and an offer of a great campsite on private property. So far, so good.
Problem is, hunting season starts in two weeks so it'll be mid-January before we can go.
On the upside - that gives us plenty of time to plan!

Good call. A fellow ChuchHike leader and I, on an overnighter/gear check, got a ride out of the forest by a sort of annoyed, semi-friendly DNR Officer (aka: Rabbit Sheriff) Because, apparently, we had hiked into to some sort of "closed" area where 35 twelve year olds with rifles had just been put out to hunt deer...

God is good, we didn't look like deer and true story its the only time I ever wore orange while hiking...
