Anybody have a cuben tarp that is made out of black or green cuben? If so what are your experiences?

never seen black cuben, but I have a green cuben tarp. Works perfectly and is super light. What exactly are you looking in regards to cuben?

I have had and been in many tents but this will be my first tarp and I would love to have a cuben tarp because I will be backpacking with it. Since cuben is translucent I would think a color tint would help to keep it a little darker when inside (help to minimize the greenhouse effect - I am a light sleeper). Was wondering if anyone found colored cuben to help with lower light levels inside and also no additional heat soak from being a darker color. Also if you have a color cuben tarp where did you get it?

    Black

I have a MYOG cuben tarp I made from .74 oz black cuben recently. It's really for those times when I sleep on the ground(don't shoot me), but for your questions it still applies. As far as to light shining through, it is much better than the olive drab or milky white colors I've used in the past. Greenhouse effect - not sure, I'm usually up and hiking in the morning twilight before the sun really gets going.

Ryan, if you would sleep in the hammock, you would know what the OP is talking about when you wake up at noon!

At home in the hammock I can all morning and get up at the crack of noon ready for another nap. Outside I am awake at dawn.

I have used the heavy and thick Hennesy Hex, and the ambaint light is too bright for me. So I started sleeping with a blindfold. I use a buff, and it works great. IMHO the 'darkness' provided by a tarp is a non-issue. If you need it dark to sleep, cover your eyes.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

My tarp is green cuben - translucent and wonderful. Gives you a sense of your surroundings while still obscuring you to on-lookers. Similar to glass-block used in bathrooms.

I have some black cuben roll top dry sacks that I also love - wouldn't mind a small stealth tarp in black.

lol...I hear ya! I do take the hammock sometimes, but I've become a bit of a gram weanie now days and my ground setup is much lighter. Mostly because I have put more focus on it than my hammock setup.

    Black Cuben Tarp

Joe at Zpacks will do it for you. He caries black 0.74 cuben. Its more of a dark gray as you can see from the pics (a few more in my gallery).
I had mine done several months back. I also have a 0.51 in white and its definitely much more translucent than the black.
Slight weight penalty for the black but I definitely love the stealthyness!

floatingonair, is that the standard z-packs hammock tarp in .74 cuben instead of .51? Do you know the total weight difference between the two cubens?
