Well, as someone who has been married for 26 years, as of today, I think I can speak with some experience. We did'nt get to 26 by not respecting the feelings of one another. It has NOTHING to do with gender! I have not done some things that I wanted to do before, for the simple reason my wife was not comfortable with it. I would expect the same from her, and I would get it. Too many people take lightly their relationships and that is why divorce rates are so high. Most times kids are involved, unfortunately. I'm sure the two of you can sit down and discuss this issue and respect each others feelings. Don't be so quick to dismiss his reasoning. You are a female alone in the woods, in a very sick world. You better have more than a pocket knife! Just my .02.

My wife doesn't hike, but she has ridden her motorcycles all over the western US and camped by herself, including going to Sturgis 3 times. She does have a small firearm collection though. lol
I've seen women alone almost everywhere I've ever backpacked, especially in the more well known wilderness areas. I've seen women alone on bicycle tours as well.

I hear you, we are on our 20th. we didn't get this far with out thinking of each others feelings. I am trying to find away we are both getting what we want. I'm trying to get as close to a 50/50 as our marriage is with most everything else. This has been discussed in our house for almost 2 years. I don't think I was really ready mentally back then but now......................although badly worded it is not a ques I just thew out there. I just suck at wording things just right ( as well as spelling said wordsI wont even start on my grammer!)

It's a crazy world we live in, I agree that the word "Let" is not the correct word to be thrown about here, that being said should my wife and or daughter desire to go it alone I would advise against it simply due to safety.

She and her best friend since elementry school go on trips from time to time I only ask that they keep their phones charged in case of emergency...

Thankyou! Congrats yourself on making it to 20. We are a rare breed. I hope I did'nt come across as disrespectful in any way. I know I would be concerned for my wife too. I don't have that problem, as she is not much of an outdoors person. We used to take the kids to campgrounds, because she had to have electric, toilets, showers,etc... I always loved to camp, so when we first got married, I just took her right out in the scrubs of the Ocala National Forest, primitive camping. It takes a special woman to want to squat and pee in the woods. She is not one of those.

I would feel better with my wife,gf, better half etc. being alone or with friends in the wilds of North America than on the streets of Atlanta any day of the week. Don't be too hard on your husband hun, there are plenty of oppurtunistic nuts out there.

I disagree! Since we've had kids certain things must be considered before one of us takes off. Not the least of which is "Are you up to taking the kids for X-number of days alone?".

Just words folks, just words. We have been at marriage for 38 years and neither would consider it offensive to consider "let" or "my" become a problem unless the context supported it. My wife is mine and I am hers...we are (to quote a best selling book) of one flesh having cleaved together.

That said if my Judy wanted to take up a solo through hike we would begin the process of preparing her for it (she has her hammock and insulation already). I would worry but that is because I love her too much to be flippant about the very real risks found everywhere in this world. Judy does not mind being called "my wife" because the term denotes a very special relationship of love and care. She also respects my God given judgement enough to consider my counsel carefully...but that is what a healthy Christian marriage is supposed to be like.

Dogs are a lot like people . . . in that gaining mastery over fear can best be accomplished incrementally.
(Unless one is thrust unexpectedly full boar at the fear)
For training purposes I would suggest small moments of over coming that fear with successful out comes.
