Stuffing or folding cuben? -- inspired by Holgers post on sil

As I anxiously await my z-packs cuben tarp, I was wondering the proper protocol for placing a cuben tarp in a "stuff" sack. Can cuben be stuffed in the same manner as sil?

Thats what I have been doing. Just stuff it. IMO If you fold in the same spot over and over you get a week spot.

Been folding for many weeks backpacking right now. I had my concerns about folding, but haven't seen wear thus far. I am not making a hard crease however, but folding fairly flat.

Other cuben gear I have has suffered wear, but it has been abraision wear.

Traftonm, have you seen the folding issue take place or heard something from another cuben user? I love this material, but realize that long term issues are still not known....folding may be one of them.

Maybe ask Joe at zpacks what he recommends for his tarps and tents.

Cuben is susceptible to damage from friction or abrasion. If you folded the tarp in the same spots every time and then put it into a pack pocket or something, I would suspect that those fold points would get abrasion regularly, more than other points in the tarp would - and could eventually lead to wear points on the tarp. I've made a cuben bag for mine with scraps, but I think tyvek or sil-nylon would do for a stuff sack.

I just stuff mine. As was said, you wouldn't want to fold it always in the same spot I wouldn't think.

Do the stuffers put the stuff sack into their pack or on the outside?

One of my main reasons for folding is to have the tarp stay in a mesh pocket on the outside where it doesn't get crushed by other gear (notably food for several days), nor get any other gear wet. I use a cuben sleeve for the tarp.
