hooked on hammocks now for the UQ

Advice for my first UQ and its use with my HH

Ok so I tried it and of course as every here says there is no better way to sleep, the next thing I want is a quilt.
I'm hanging in a hennesy backpacker, reg length, W/bottom entry, I will be modding it with 2QZQ #3 so bottom entry is not important over all.

I'm thinking of getting a WB 3-Season Yeti, I'm not sure its a good match for my hammock due to never using a UQ before, I will need to use it 1 or 2 times with out the zipper mod and after that, side entry and everthing is good, if I use the hammock for my winter trips I will get a winter quilt as well.

    any tips would be helpful.

i think you'll have difficulties getting a good fit until you get the mod

if you plan to use the side pull outs i would get the HH supershelter

if you don't plan to use the side pull outs an UQ will work well after you get the mod, prior to that i believe you may be frustrated.

the HH/SS works well with his products and it's that heavy, just a tad bulkly and a tad frustrating trying to figure out how to get the pad back in the sac as the first couple tries are rough.

brandon's quilts are very very nice,...not trying to deter you from them but without a mod, IMO, HH's are not that user friendly with UQ's.

i'm free this weekend if you want to get together so you can understand what i'm trying to explain.

I would also suggest checking out hammockgear.com. phoenix. I would look at all the UQ offered and decide what dimensions are best for me. Just myho

I have a couple from Hammock Gear's and JRB. I love my Hammock Gear stuff and I probably won't stray from the brand. My exception is that the JRB wearable quilts are great to have in your inventory. I wish I had bought the No Sniveller earlier, because it is more versatile than any other quilt available, even if I like my Burrow more. If you want to save some cash and don't mind synthetic, go with Arrowhead Equipment--lots of happy customers.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with any vendor here, but when I was buying HG was the best value. I think everyone should have a wearable quilt.

Another vote for AHE quilts. I have no doubt the HG and JRB quilts are top notch, but if you think you want a synthetic UQ, my KAQ is really nice.

I'm using the hammock for my UL trips so anything I get must be 1.5 lbs or less and good for 3 seasons in MI so 20 or 30 degrees and so far I plan to use the guy lines on each side but I could change my mind on that.

Ok I'm no longer going to worry about weight due to using the UQ for winter and will figure a little more weight is no problem, I like the WB Winter Yeti but they are out of stock, any other suggestions?

I don't believe their is really any "good" or "bad" to any under quilts. All the vendors make excellent quilts that all fit different styles of hiking. When I researched UQ's I looked at several factors including weight, length, width, insulation and suspension system. I personally did not choose the yeti because I personally wanted a wider, longer quilt which provided more coverage. Others find the yeti to provide plenty of coverage and have used it very successfully. I would weigh the pro's and con's of each UQ and pick the one that fits your hiking style the best. Hope that helps.
