I am concerned about water. IF we are camping somewhere between the pond and the ruins, we won't be close to water at all.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.
What day are all of you going? Aside from Lon & Lat are there directions to the Ruins? It would be totally last minute for me, but I'd sure like a couple of nights out with my new Gar-griller!
Went back and found the map. Only hard part would be finding the roads in the dark. Would you be parking by the fire tower?
How close do we need to be?
While I would prefer to filter from a running water source, did I hear mention of a stream, I'd probably pick the pond over lake Monroe. The lake has alot of motorized traffic that leaves behind hydrocarbon polutants. The pond is, while stagnant, probably a much safer water source that lake monroe.
To save myself excessive trips to filter water I plan to bring a secondary dromedary bag. My hope is that I'll only have to make 1 trip to the water source each day.

I wouldn't count on water being in the stream either. And don't forget that filtering pond water will almost certainly ruin your filter cartridge. I like the idea of just walking back to the car once if necessary, myself. Might even be tempted to put some extra food in there too.
Oms..... I do hope you come.

There are 2 ponds within a 15 min hike from the camping area....
Mule, do you remember when we camped there in May? there was a small stream north of us.....do you think there wil be water there??
Also, to the South of us was a run off area....not sure but there may be water there.....
I will make plans on bringing 2-3 gallons of water with me....we can store it in the car for later if need be,,

The only Easy day was yesterday.
Well I sure hope there's a decent water source. I rarely get to use my sawyer gravity system to filter water and it sure would be a treat instead of drinking water from home. But better safe than sorry.
oldgringo's reply to my worrying about owning extra hammocks:
How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?
