    speer hammock dimensions

Does anyone know the dimensions Ed Speer recommends for his hammocks. He had some formula in his book, and I cannot seem to find my copy.

Something like 2 feet longer than you are tall, but I cannot remember the width. Thanks.

    In the book, Ed quotes:

Length: 2 feet longer than your height + allowance for end knots + allowance for hems

Width: Approx 5 foot wide for all

I don't have it in front of me, but I believe it is your height +2' for comfort +2' for knots. He might add 3" in for seams.

I use wire ties on the ends of mine and came up with 10' long for me by the fabric width for my 6'4" self.

I made a 14' long one and played around until I came up with it, might help for you.

Ed's hammock lengths are measured along the sides of his hammock, where the sides of his hammocks are 4 to 6 inches shorter than the center area of the hammock. His 8.0 hammocks are roughly 8.5 feet long along the center and his 8.5 hammocks are roughly 9 feet.

That sound's about right, from what I recall. I guess I can make one 9' and tie the ends.

I am just making an el cheapo so I can have something when I need a brake from the office. I'll just keep it stashed in my cube.
