Question Big Guys Need Hammocks To?

Hello Hammock community I have a problem and I hope you can help.

I have been recently bitten by the camping/survival bug and would like to acquire more gear to make that pass time more enjoyable. I have been scouring the internet looking for smart ideas and I think I have stumbled onto one of the smartest. The hammock. Most of you people are already thinking the same way and that is why you are here. I however have a problem. I am a large male. A very large male from the stand point of hammock makers as I exceed that weight limit on all of the hammocks I have seen including the Clark Nx 250. I am 6'4 weighting in at around 350lbs on a light day and I have a 60 inch chest. I am basically build like the MMA fighter Tank Abbot or the Pro wrestler Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Basically put I am beer keg with legs and a funny looking head. So does this mean that the realm of hammocks is closed to me or do I have to shell out some major coin for a custom built one? If you can answer my questions that would be great. I look forward to reading the response.

    Check out the ENO doublenest

Check out the ENO double nest, If i remember correctly the weight limit is 400 lb. Most of the suspensions you'll see people using around here seem to go at least that high as well, except the dutch clip is only 275 I think.

Good luck, search around - there is a lot of great info on this forum.

A Warbonnet BlackBird double layer 1.7 will hold 400 pounds....and other hammocks as well.

Contact Brandon for more info. There are several big fellers on here who hang regularly.

Brandon at Warbonnett has custom made hammocks for some of our "gravity challenged" hanngers. I am 6ft 2 and 280lbs and use a regular 1.7 dbl BlackBird which I find very roomy.

If possible attend a group hang so you can check out some different hammocks and set ups.

There are plenty options for ya. The switchback comes in a 1.9 double layer. There is the black bird 1.7 dbl. You could also go the diy route and make yourself a 1.9oz double layer.

I'm about the same specs as you and I have a trek-light double and a wbbb 1.7 dbl and both work great for me as stock sets!

Hempseed my friend, perhaps you should check out BushcraftUSA. I see you mentioned Camping and Survival in the same sentence so you may be looking for woodsmanship in general. To be perfectly honest, the two communities go hand in hand like ham and mac and cheese. I'll look forward to seeing you over there brother. As for the Hammock, I usually suggest a DIY hammock made of a painter's canvas dropcloth and some acceptable rope. At 400+, my first one held me without strain. I did however eventually purchase a Hamock Bliss No See Um No More for fairly cheap. That is, after I decided the Hammock was truely the direction I wished to go.

I'm just a tad smaller than you, Hempseed. I've used a Warbonnet Blackbird, which is fairly roomy for me, but there's a definite learning curve in hanging it just right. I'm now trying out an ENO Doublenest. I haven't slept a night it in, but I found it very comfortable for lying around. Plenty of elbow room. I put it on some inch-and-a-half straps with a ring-buckle system, because the ENO slapstraps have way too much stretch.

I am new to hammocking too, but my ENO DN hasn't dropped me yet. (6'1~325#)

One thing I like about this site is it taught me to make my own suspension (which one could beef up for greater confidence) as well as the DIY techniques for making your own hammock, quilts etc. As you know in certain weight classes you need to customize things because you can't always buy it off the shelf !
