    Stand Made With Canopy Fittings?

I had a thought yesterday, and I would appreciate some rough feedback before moving forward with it. I apologize if this has already been discussed; I didn't find anything when I searched.

I want something with the rigidity of a pipe stand, but the weight of an aluminum stand, and I don't want to have to screw anything together. Chain link fence fittings don't look trustworthy to me, but then I stumbled on canopy fittings, which are designed (some of them anyway) to use aluminum top rails. They're also welded, so it seems like they will hold up much better than the bolt-on fence hardware. Here's the particular piece I'm looking at:

By using the piece below, you could even rig a second hammock inline.

I'm not looking for in-depth analysis, just any fatal flaws in the premise that I'm not seeing.

I have made one and like it https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...nd-or-a-seesaw
I'm in the middle of trying to move so it is in storage right now, but I hope to use it more this fall. I found the connectors with a 60 degree angle to be the best:
"High Pitch Peak Center with Centerpole" here http://tarps.com/chrome2.htm

there is also this one that looks really nice: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...style-portable

If I made it again I might try to find 60 degree connectors for 1 3/8 fence pipe to make it sturdier.

Yeah, I found the custom fabricated stand, but that's out of the question. Yours looks interesting. I'll take a closer look at it.

Regarding the second one (swingset style, single person), what diameter tubing did you use? I'm guessing it's less than 1 3/8", but I can't tell from the picture.

Yes it is 1" conduit. I think it is strong enough, I'm about 220 and it held me but there is some tension on the poles.

the components you are looking at originated, in part, in the FLEA MARKET INDUSTRY

they were, originally, used w/ ELECTRICAL CONDUIT & covered w/ BLUE PLASTIC TARPS, held on w/ bungees

you can check out similar products, in service, @ your local flea market on just about any weekend

i am, in no way, saying the parts wont work

just offering some heritage for perusal

if you do go this way, PLEASE keep us posted on the results

We used those from a local firm for our chicken coop. It has had my husband and son on top of it several times this summer while building it.

I have some canopy fittings for 1" conduit and did some experimentation a couple months ago, inspired by jbrightly's creation. What I found with my fittings is that the conduit didn't really fit that snugly inside the fittings which made the whole thing very unstable. After my experience it just doesn't feel to me like 1" conduit is heavy enough to build a very safe and solid stand.

This site has been linked a few times but not to their 1 3/8" connectors, here: http://tarps.com/fittings2.htm

Tarps.com doesn't list the "low slope corner" that allows an acute angle for the legs. I just ordered some from Canopy Mart, so I'll update after I see how well it works with 1 3/8" top rail.

From tarps.com, some folks have used the "High Pitch Peak Center w/ Centerpole" I believe(?).
