    Hammock overload syndrome.

Not talking about weight limits, but anyone else found themselves knee deep in hammocks? My real problem is that I feel the urge, and I don't know why to supply my entire family with hammocks every time I consider camping. This means I have purchased two for my elderly father, a couple for my wife, a few for the kids (all but one are grown and out of the house by the way), etc.. So I am going camping with a few of my kids in a few weeks or as soon as I can get away and we can all arrange our work schedules, and I find myself worrying about if I have hammocks for them, and if the ones I have are open or have bugnets? Do I have enough straps for everyone? How about tarps? Then you think about spikes to tie the tarps down. Where does this end? It's almost like a guilty feeling. I know I can't be the only one.

It's not just hammocks I do this with. Firesteels. I bet I have 5 huge sticks sitting here to make sure the kids have one, and about 20 small ones you know, just in case they need one to put in a backpack. Maybe I should just start renting gear out. And no, I am not looking to adopt. Sorry. But I will commiserate with other people who have this same affliction.

i have, or have had hammocks from all of the great vendors on this forum.
not sure why i keep the one's i do, besides to convert a groundling.
that and i can appreciate a small shops design and commitment to innovation.

but i'm with you. i'm sure most 'dads' are too.

    Nope. Your sick, very sick!

The only cure is to send all your gear to me.

I know. They also say the first step is admitting you have a problem. Thing is, I am not keeping it all, I just find myself obsessing over it. With the fires this last week and the concern over having to possibly evacuate if they got close, I was taking inventory on a couple of backpacks, and found things like tooth brushes and other items I have been dragging around for kids that aren't even living at home anymore. Maybe I need to start stuffing their things in a few flat rate boxes and lighten my pack some.

I have enough gear to completely outfit 3 people, fully. Just in case my son and a friend want to go or something. I enjoy the peace of being out in the wilderness. I thrive off the self confidence of hiking in somewhere, setting up camp, cooking supper, surviving a storm, etc.... I enjoy the comfort my hammock provides and the many life stories and experiences I've had doing all of this. In turn, I want to share it all with my family and friends. At least those who are willing to step out of there comfort zone and get out and try something new.

I have the same problem. Turtlelady stand in the living room until we can rearrange the bedrom for 2 stands. Diy tarp soaking in the backyard in mineral spirits for when i get backfrom the dr. Fabric for TQ piled in bedroom. Had to just cram stuff in the backpack to get it out of the way to lay out TQ. Still adjusting new UQ design. Made my first Antler whistle last evening while grilling. You know, I'm enjoying every minute. Glad I found this place. I think that I can live with this addiction if the money holds out

Fig, ya got to get the kids involved. Give them a check list of stuff to grab. this way they feel involved in the process and you get a mental break.

I totally understand where your coming from. I have to do this for 3 adult and my son.
