Go long, even if it means custom ordering. Longer is better for us tall guys (I'm 6'2"). Eno DN aren't very long, just wider. A short friend has one, and when she went to a 10' hammock, she said it made all the difference in getting a flater lay.

I personally prefer the seperate bugnet/bugsock method like Warbonnet has for the Traveler, which is a really nice net.

My hammock is 11' and it lays better than my other 10' hammock. If comfort is a prime concern then go 11.5 or 12'. Just make sure that you get a bugnet that is extra long as well.

You're not being too fussy, you just want to get it right. For a lot of us, finding the right setup is a journey, so leave yourself some room to experiment. I happened to get my DIY hammock right the first time, but I'm on the 4th bugnet design, ready to tweek it a 5th time.

Yeah, comfort is everything to me. I hardly care about pack weight at all. I'd even go for something like that brontosaurus-sized Chrysalis, if I thought it would fit the bill (which it doesn't; too short, too enclosed).

I'm curious: at what hammock length do you start to reach a point of diminishing returns, where any more length makes little or no difference to comfort? I'm thinking I'd like mine to be right at that boundary. Of course, I have little experience lying in hammocks, so if there's a reason that's a dumb idea, please say so.

I felt the same way about making my own. I borrowed moms sewing machine and just did it. It's only 4 hems if you follow Knotty's gathered end instructions. Much easier than I expected and it's the length I wanted. Might be with a try. There are even no sew hammock instruction on here.
Look up before you hook up!!

I use a gathered end (DIY) that I think is about 11' 6" long.
It's more narrow than most (about 48" I think). That leaves less walls & allows me a better view of the woods.
I use one of my hiking poles to spread the top open. That improves the view even more.
Maybe you could find someone here to make you a long, gathered end hammock.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Hammocking seems to be such an individualistic pursuit that just about any route I go runs some risk of not working out. I've just about reached research saturation, where any new searches I try only turn up things I already know. Time to land on something that looks pretty good and bite the bullet. I'll let you all know what I decide, and how it works out. Thanks for your help so far.

And how Ohsooo! comfy a hammock she is.

    of course I'm only 5'11"

If I was 6'6" I'd be looking at an 11' or 12' hammock for sure. Taller the person, longer the hammock, flatter the lay.

The KAMMOK™ ROO is 10ft long..but it is actually 10 usable feet. We have found that other mass manufacturers sometimes measure pre-sewn dimensions, or rope-end to rope-end. The ROO was made with the tall person in mind. It is available for pre-order now and we are running a promotion for HF members only. You can get the promo code in the "other manufacturers" section on HF. Lots of great options out there!

I'm 6'3" and got a WBBB, I feel its VERY roomy, it could easily fit you.
I sleep with my arms extended above my head and feel there's plenty of space.

the other good thing is it you buy one and it doesn't feel comfortable you can sell it here for basically what you paid for it.

Whatever one you get - you'll probally be happy

I'm 6'3" and 380lbs. (gulp) and I went with the ENO DN. VERY comfortable lay, and priced right - @ $50 on eBay.

I'm also wide torso, long legs... and I lay quite nicely in the DN.

I think most of the long timers here end up with more than one hammock, anyways.

    Good luck!
