    Traveler vs GTUL

Lately I've been trying to buy hammocks which are simpler. Less is more sort of thing. Less weight, less fiddle. Less zippers. I bought a GTUL and for $20 it's not a bad hammock. But it not as comfortable as my other hammocks. I'm thinking I need to try a Traveler.

For those that have tried both, how do they compare? I am thinking of the Traveler in a SL 1.1. Would it be too similar to have both these hammock?

I have the GTU and Traveler 1.1 DL. The only real difference, IMO, is the DL aspect. I've hung one on top of the other and them seem the same size, etc.... For no real reason, I prefer the Traveler though. I like being able to put my pad in between material layers, instead of laying on top of it. I sleep just fine in either one.

Joey - Did you leave the Traveler as a gathered-end hammock or did you modify yours and run suspension through the channel? If so, did you notice any difference in the way the hammock felt?

Both hammocks are gathered ends. Setting a good sag, with the foot end slightly higher, has been key to comfort. I pitched the GT U to taught once and had the calf ridge/couldn't get comfy thing going on. I got up, move the tree straps higher, loosened the whoopies/lowered the hammock, slept great from then on.

I am 6' and didn't get a good lay in the GTUL like I do in my Traveler Single 1.7...way flatter lay as Traveler is wider and I for one, like the dash of heavier material the 1.7 is made of..to me its more solid and I really get a fantastic nites sleep in the Travler to where I gave the GTUL to the granddaughter who loves her hammock..she is 4 and sleeps in it every nite now..lol.

I wondered about the specs of these two hammocks, so I set them up on on top of the other. I grabbed the edges of each and stretched them out... same size. The flatter lay came in how it was pitched and the sag. The hammocks are the same size, at least mine are.

The feel of the material is the same too, just a different shade of green.

The traveler is much more comfortable in my opinion. A foot longer and a foot wider make a big difference. You can hang it with more sag, the gtul needs to be a little taut. I'd say a 25 degree angle.

I have a 1.1 SL and a 185 there is a little stretch but it doesn't bother me. There's deffiently more stretch than the gtul. You can bring the weight down around 1.5oz using dynaglide whoopies and also shorter tree straps. You'll be much happier in the traveler as long as you're 175 and under I think.

Thanks guys. I think I will try the traveler. I have lots of family and friends to give hammocks to if it doesn't work out. I'm 180 and will try the SL 1.1 because I like the weight. Not afraid of a little stretch as long as it holds me.

I will report back once I get it and have a chance to try it out.

The Traveler is larger, better quality, comes with a ridgeline and suspension, and a bargain when you break it all down. Consider a DL if you want to use a CCF pad.
