Mummy Sleeping bag question.

So I just picked up this bag and it is a 15 degree bag. I was wondering what temps you think i might get down to using it in a hammock. I know it will compress underneath me, but it only cost $30 and I think it will make a good top quilt as well, but since i don't have a UQ right now, i thought i would ask.

Lay on a nice, wide pad and you'll be plenty warm... 15-degrees? maybe, but that depends on you, the wind, how you setup your tarp, whether you have a sock or not, etc...

At 5lbs, it's heavier than I would expect...

I don't think that description is accurate. This looks like my bag, but mine weighs about 3 pounds.

I don't think I will be camping out at those temps, but I might on the odd occasion.

Reading some of the reviews for the link you posted it looks like there is 3# of insulation and 2# of cover, zipper, drawcords, etc. for a total weight of 5#. The comfort range for the bag is stated at +5 to +40. I would be much closer to the +40. I have a +20 REI synthetic sleeping bag that I get cold in if the temps get below +45. Some of the complaints of the bag are that you feel wind along the zipper (no or insufficient draft tube). You could improve the warmth by adding a top blanket to keep out wind and keep in extra warmth, add a bag liner, add hand warmer packs and/or add a sock covered nalgene with hot water in it. Also realize that you need something under you. A form pad or underquilt will help prevent heat loss from your backside. It's certainly a great price!

Thanks, I plan on sleeping with this, plus a PLUQ and if needed a fleece blanket.

I don't think I am that worried about getting too cold in it, I just want some colder weather so I can test it out now

Use it as a top quilt then. Zip the bottom a for foot or 2 to make a box and just pull it over you.

This is how I've been using mine. Don't know how well it's gonna work in colder weather but I'm gonna see how low I can take it.

I have used a Northface Ibex (no longer made) down mummy bag as a TQ with a wallyworld blue pad underneath down to 18 degrees. I have a UQ now so I plan to see how well this new combination works this winter.

Recommend you test your setup under controled conditions so if your setup does not work as exprected you can bail.
