Boots died after only 17 years...

Any HF suggestions on replacement boots would be appreciated. I usually day hike in running shoes, but prefer mid-height boots on longer hikes esp. in rocky terrain. Any highly recommended boots out there weighing under 3 lbs. / pair?

That's really something you need to go try some on..
Feet are SOO different person to person.
I wear Keens because they fit my wider feet where others cramp them.
But that being said.. I love my Keens

Yeah, I'm aware that I'll need to try some on, but I would like to narrow the hunt down to a few recommended boots, since I live hours from any vendors.

    Chippewa Boots.

But, you're 17 years older now, with enough A$ to travel, and maybe ready for something lighter, to hell with whether they last so long? Maybe there's something to the notion that grumpy old men would be less grumpy if the pair of boots they wore on all-day hikes were 1/2 kg lighter?

    On traditional boot-making methods:

Maybe, but I haven't worn out my (even older) Chippewas or Red Wings or English Docs. Though re-soling has come to be so crazy expensive, the eBay alternative sometimes makes sense.

I recently bought Treksta's Evolution Mid GTXs trekstas.jpg because (1) they won the Backpacker Magazine's Editor's Choice award, (2) they're GoreTex-lined and waterproof and (3) they're ultralight but built tough enough for backpacking with a multi-day pack. And I love them!!!!! Out-of-the-box comfort turned in to bedroom-slipper comfort!!!!

    Here's a link to a video: Backpacker Magazine's 2011 Editor's Choice
