    Angry McCat Nightmare!!!

This was my second time taking out my new McCat tarp, what a disaster that was!!! First off, some of the lines were missing when I got the new tarp in the mail so I sent them an email. I never got a response.

Yesterday was our first night out with the new tarp and we got hit with a thunderstorm. 100% of my new tarp leaked..... I got soaked to the bone. What a nightmare!!!!

I have to say the HH-SS is incredible, even after being soaked it still kept me warm in temps below 40. Unfortunately I am now going back to using the JRB UQ because I don't like the way the SS causes the sides of the hammock to scrunch, and the bug net to droop.

Back to the McCat........ Does anyone have any advice on what I should do?
Refund, Exchange, or toss it in the trash..........

I got my MacCat last year and have used it on six trips so far with no problems. Two of those trips included a lot of rain. No leaks. I'm surprised Brian hasn't returned your email. May have to wait until after finals.

I have never heard anything bad about these tarps, that's why I expected it was just a fluke. An unfortunate one at my expense. I'm just glad I was car camping and not backpacking.

It didn't just leak on the ridge, it leaked everywhere, as if it were made of cotton or something. The entire thing was completely soaked, I could wring it out like a sponge. Maybe it was all running down from the ridge line, or something. All I know is that I got soaked and had to come home tonight because we were expecting more rain and I didn't have a backup. There is nothing worse than having to pack in the dark............

When it was wet, it appeared to have weird blotches all over it. Maybe it was just a defunct piece of material from the factory or something.

That's very strange. It would almost have to be a defect in the fabric to have failed in the manner that you described. I'm sure Brian will take care of you.

    Scott,

Please check your email. I will of course make this right for you.

I want to assure everyone that this is more-than-likely a one time thing. I check my fabric every 4-5 tarps off the bolt to make sure the coating meets a minimum spec. I am asking Scott to mail it back to me so I can check it out - I will keep people informed so that I can assure you this is not a widespread problem. I just now checked each tarp I have in stock, and none seem to have this problem.
