    Kids' hammock kit

first and foremost, he has to be able to carry his hammock rig! so i made this pack for his 5th birthday. It's Xpac, like generic Dyneema I suppose, and is about 1600 cubes and weighs 6.8 ounces.

big enough for 2 quilts, hammock, and we will share a tarp.
the straps are 1/4 ccf filled and top straps are silnylon, along with a sil xtension collar.
oh, and hidden from view is the bottom made of 4oz/yd or so waterproof nylon (cordura maybe?)

next he'll just get a standard te-wa quilt, which on him will be full size, and a tiny TQ with 2 drawcords, so he can grow into it.

Awesome! Is it basically, a cylinder with straps?

yessir. it's just a rectangular bottom, sil xtension, some bungee on the back and has pockets big enough for his snacks and water. I may add a sternum strap, as it appears to need one. a whistle buckle could round out this addition.

hoping he grows to love nature and experience the wonders of life outside.

That's awesome! Makes me wish I had a couple more younger ones, um, strike that. I mean to say I wish I had that idea years ago when I only had a couple of them.

Nice job Te-Wa! My son is 5 as well and I'd love to make him something like that. You wouldn't happen to have a pattern or be willing to write up some build instructions, would you? Some of us are not quite that talented. I've been thinking a lot lately about how to best introduce him to hiking and the great outdoors. I'm thinking this next summer he will be at a good age to do some hammock camping overnighters.

Great pack! It is hard to find a good pack for a young kid. I bet you will have some good times camping with his new gear.
