what is wrong with my PLUQ

ok, so i have no idea wth is wrong with my PLUQ i made. its no sew, and its cool looking, but thats just about it as far as i can tell.

I tried it out the first time on my enoDN and it did not work comfortably, suspension wise.

my butt was fine and warm to around 61* (cell phone weather report).

but the suspension ropes went either under my head, causing a serious pressure point and twisting my neck. if not that, then it went over my face, and thats not comfortable...at all.

i dont know if it was just pulling too high or what, but can anyone figure this out?

are all UQ's like this?

Do you have a pic of it? Did you run a line on each side the entire legnth of your hammock? Were the nds tightened up too much?

yeah,i have a length of paracord going on each side, connected to the shock cord.
the ends were not "tight" per se, as it was at the max i can put it in this format.

i had it clipped to my rings in my suspension, and at one point i got up and moved it a little closer to the hammock to loosen it, but that made it cold underneath.

the ends have bungee running width wise and those were loose as possible, which i also adjusted both ways to see if it helped (because i was feeling a ridge there at both ends.)

trying to get this figured out before either grayson or my hangs..

I don't have a PLUG, just DIY underquilts. All of mine only use shock cord on them, no static lines, that way they should adjust themselves sort of. The 2 side shock cords run full legnth from the ring on the head end to the ring on the foot end thru channels so i can move it forward or backwards. Could you try changing the paracord with shock cord and see if it makes a difference?

might do that, just kinda hard to see what difference it would make. i can slide the uq on the paracord.

Yes, you can slide the quilt on the paracord, but when your weight gets in the hammock, it will sag, the paracord will stay static and it will get tight. If you swap it out for shock cord and not pull the shock cord real tight, when you get in and it sags the shock cord will stretch with you, paracord will not.

My PLUQ is fine at 45-degrees... (Glad to see you got yours up!)

if the suspension line is moving your head, I'd say it's WAY too tight...

Shock cord all the way. But don't go too thin. I used the really thin shock cord and had to crank it way too tight to work well.

my shock cord is 1/8th.

i didnt think of the paracord thing, not stretching "right". the instructions i followed called for "utility cord" on the sides, connected to shock cord at the ends. i guess the way i had it it wasnt able to form to my butt with the para, it was keeping it pretty rigid..

Rev, just pulled mine out to verify. It is a sewn PLUQ with paracord all around. The only shock cord is between the corners and the triangle thingies. I did have my wife help with the initial adjustments but once it was set it was just a matter of hooking the side paracord biners up and the TT cord to the TT with small biners. The end paracords, 1 in the closed end and 2 in the open end are adjusted and cord locked. The double paracord on the open end is at the head and can be adjusted while laying in the hammock. I know this is apples to oranges but maybe it will help. Good luck, I had mine down to 32 degrees last spring with a piece of insultec( a fleeced and perforated mylar) between the layers.and wearing polypro longs.
