Shoes when hanging

I just tuck mine in tight by the hammock. Slip 'em on to get up and pee.

Yep I do the same... we don't have scorpions here, but had a large fat slug in one of mine this summer... So I always shake them out before putting them on.

I do what Crash does when I use the WBBB and I do what Rug does when I use the HH. I used to just leave everything on the ground, but after something ate part of my pack, a fair bit of it, I now store my shoes at the foot end ridgeline and my pack on the head end ridgeline. I still leave my two water bottles on the ground.

I figure they want get eaten or taken away. Handy for a middle of the night drink too. By putting a carbiner through the heel loops, I can hang the shoes from the heel end, pointing down. This way, the shoes hang down and I face the bottom of the shoe (the dirty part) away from the hammock and quilt.

Thanks to everyone that replied. While at summer camp with our troop I was sleeping in a hammock and that is when I decided to start hanging my shoes over the ridge line. Being that there mice and snakes in the area I didn't feel like taking a chance with finding either one in a shoe. We are talking about an AT section hike in October with our crew and thought I would asked the experts to see if I was off base on what I did. I had searched but didn't find a thread on this subject so figured I'd start one.

I typically hang my shoes on my tarp ridgeline and for middle of the night bladder relieving trips I have a pair of insole flipflops that I made out of a pair of old running shoe insoles and 550 cord. Work great as a camp shoe and since they are a flipflop I don't need to check them for bugs or critters before I put them on also they are extremely lightweight, 2 oz for the pair!
