I have a thermarest and a couple UQs already but I've been considering buying a NeoAir (probably the Large size for the extra width). This would be both for use in the hammock and on the ground or sleeping on floors traveling. I know we have some users of the NeoAir on the forums, so my question is how low of a temp is the NeoAir good to by itself? I've used my thermarest in the hammock in the teens and lower, but I'm not sure how the uninsulated NeoAir would compare.

Been to 32 sleeping in a shelter on floor but don't think it would make that in a hammock without other under insulation. I'm better off with a ccf pad in my double layer hammock

Maybe go for the NeoAir All Season? Or wait until January and buy the NeoAir XTherm - it's supposed to have an r-value of 5.7 and a weight of 430g in the regular size.
Thinking of trying out my neo air large just the other day. The replys are helpful. I'll do a bit of backyard testing. Heavy frosts are just now starting here in northern PA.

For hammock insulation? The standard is 20" wide, so it would need some help. The large is 25"x77", weighs 19oz and is R2.5. Most people report it works to about 32F. You can extend it a bit by adding a thin CCF pad. That is okay for ground camping, but I wonder how weird the sandwich would get in a hammock.
The Neo Air All -Season large is 25"x77" and R4.9, so it would take you as low as any CCF pad. The problem is that it weighs as much as an UQ (25oz) and costs about the same too--- $169 if you can find one in stock.
You can get a down UQ for another $10-$20 that is lighter and more comfortable. You can get full synthetic UQ's that are a little heavier and actually cost less while giving full coverage. Unless you are going to use it for ground camping, I don't see it adding up.
I wish someone would make an insulated air-based bottom insulation rig for hammocks. It could be super light if used like an UQ, as it wouldn't need to support your weight. It could be like a big mylar air mattress-balloon and used rather slack so it could conform to your shape. Imagine 6" or so loft with a light polyester scrim inside for air current dampening, plus the reflective qualities of the mylar.
