Sorry your two friends didn't stick it out. Backpacking really isn't for everyone.

Glad the improv beaks worked out.

Gonna go watch part two now...
Thanks man. I talked to them last night and they said they had a blast. So, I'm glad that regardless of the butt kicking they got from the trail, they at least had fun.

A great tongue in cheek video demonstrating what not to do when hiking with beginners. To start off with my humour dial wasn't tunded in and I thought it was all for real and that you had actually left the 'noobs' behind... it was all a joke... wasn't it... please tell me it was.

Am I the only one who finds something very, very wrong with how you treated your newcomers to hiking on this trip? When hiking with beginners you need to adapt your pace to theirs. As someone who likes to walk fast I know this can be frustrating but if you want your newcomers to walk away with a memorable and positive experience you don't want to 'do them in' on their first outing. I've always found it best to put the slowest person out front. It's amazing how much people can pick up their pace when they're in the lead position.
As for leaving the newcomers behind - I can't see that as a good thing in anyone's book particularly if they were injured. If they were making up injuries and accidents that also means you've got a problem in some ways harder to deal with than an actual injury. Its these sorts of situations where a strong leader will shine and others... well they'll just abandon their mates and carry on.

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

You are entitled to your opinion.

I'm happy that we all had a great time hiking and everyone had a memorable and positive experience from this trip.
