You might want to take a look at the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. As long as that part meets the specifications, they cannot restrict you to purchasing "Harley" parts. According to the act: Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty. You might want to start making some waves with whoever you are trying to get to cover this.

I sold auto parts and worked in dealerships for years and that is correct, not that they won't try to do otherwise

Also, in many cases the manufacturer who made the defective part will pick up the bill for the damage their part caused. It is easier and cheaper for them to fix the problem than stand up to a consumer protection complaint or a day in court.

Stay calm and be clear about what you want them to do.

i want to say thanks to all you guys. i have a friend in Florida that got into hammocking after me (because of me...) and he bought the same hammock i did, blackbird. he also had an eno, and he doesnt like the BB for some reason, and since hes not a member here he wants me to sell it and send him an ENO, haha. so thats going up here now.
