So is general concensus for Noah's 12 setup ridge under tarp or just using two lines to tie to your trees/posts?

No consensus. I do it both ways with this tarp, and they both work great.

I've found it easier to get a tight pitch with the ridge line under the tarp. When I hung the tarp under the ridge line the weight of the tarp made it difficult to get a good tight pitch. I'm not sure why it would make a difference, but that's my experience.

    FWIW, YMMV...

With people saying the Noah 12 is huge would it be better to go with a Noah 9 then if I was looking to get one of these?

    Thanks for all the info

the 9 is only big enough in a diamond shape for hammock setups, the 12 is 17 feet on the diagonal so diamond would be too long but it would be fine in a normal A frame. Go 12 and youll never be worried about coverage.

So, I too have a noah 12. It is a wonderfully versatile tarp with many ways to set it up. This summer my partner and I used it for our "bunk bed" set-up on our week long kayak camping trip. It provided more than enough coverage for both our hammocks. My partner never got wet even with her having the potential for more exposure being the bottom "bunk". Due to the difference in distance from trees at our campsites we pitched it as a diamond at the first camp site and as an A-frame for our second. I like all of the tie-out tabs built into this tarp, it gives the ability to really adjust it to fit your needs. I love it. Plus, the price was great... I may get the smaller one for single hammock use. I did notice several people had already posted pictures so that should help you quite a bit. Good luck and enjoy!

my wife has both the 9 and the 12. the 9 she sets up diamond and likes it a lot. the 12 is set up a frame for bad weather or as a huge square for public shade.

Here are some pix of that exact tarp:

I used the Kelty for a couple of trips and then switched to a Superfly.

For my uses, the Superfly provided better protection at roughly the same size and weight.

    Questions? Let me know.

The hammock inside is a Henessey Backpacker Light Asym.

I am a relative newbie, so take this for what its worth... I also have a Noah 12 - the first tarp I purchased after getting my HH and wanting something larger than the stock rainfly. Mine hasn't even been set up, but I helped a friend set his up. It is huge and provides a ton of coverage. I then bought a Chinook 9X12 which is a little more manageable. Neither has been fielded yet. If I were to do it over again I would bite the bullet and buy exactly what I wanted. What I spent on those two is close to the cost of a Superfly or similar.

    Good advice from JPsax.
