    Quick question: Storage

Recently saw a setup for placing shoes and such under the hammock. I believe it was hung from the edges of the hammock/suspension but can't find where I saw it or what it may be called. Just a DIY setup for storing shoes and other gear under the hammock. Ideas?

    Thanks.

Some folks just make a tiny hammock and suspend it under their hammock. They are referred to as Gear Hammocks. I would imagine they just latch onto the hammock suspension somewhere. They can also double as pack covers. I do recall seeing a shelf of sorts in a picture maybe out of bamboo but more than likely was a fun idea but not too practical.

That's what I was thinking, just a second mini hammock. Any ideas for materials? The other part is I'm not sure about is having a cord come off of each corner (assuming "mini hammock" is a rectangle, and how to join them into a single cord to attach to the suspension. Any knot ideas? (Again, im a noobie)

fb009 - search "Instruction: Gathered End Hammock" Knotty shows how to make one. All you have to do is scale it down for a gear hammock. It is not hard at all.

And as stated the jacks sell a version of Jeff's cover on their site.

I made one from these directions and it is solid. An easy diy. Would be a good first sewing project.

I picked up a little gear hammock from a member on the forum here... It was just a scaled down version of a end channel hammock out of some light ripstop. I added some thin whoopies and soft shackles and it is a great thing to have... use it as a foot rest during the day when sitting in the hammock. I put everything in it at night, boots, water, extra jacket, keys etc and string it along side my hammock. Just unzip the bugnet and fetch what I need. I could run it under my hammock, just never tried.

It looks like it was made from about a half a yard of fabric, seams on all 4 sides, then fold top and bottom over for a channel, done!

The gear hammocks I make are just little gathered end hammocks. They are easy to string up with some ropes from your hammock suspension. I use ripstop, but they could easily be made out any halfway decent material you like since you're not depending on it being able to carry body weight. If you can sew a couple of seams it doesn't take too long. If you can't sew, tyvek and tyvek tape works well, too. An inexpensive and fun project. It's nice to make your own gear.

    Flashbang,
Walmart has $5 pack covers with enuf shock cord included that you would only need a few feet of line to make a suspension for it.
I am going to use one as a gear hammock. No mods needed.
