Love my huaraches...I made mine for rubber backed carpet runner. Made 3 pair for $6 and I love them...just did a good hike with them today and I love my feet out in the open. Our toes need to experience nature too

I wouldn't bet the farm on the progress... I teach high school now and I've come to the realization that the more things change, the more they stay the same
I like this idea as well! Nice and cheap, and carpet runner huaraches can be rolled up and stuffed just about anywhere (probably hold up to twigs a little better too).
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
I have had and use in cooler weather a pair of Sierra Designs booties, which weigh 7 oz filled will 450 down..love them,,and very light weight to wear around the camp,,and even great to wear in the hammock..here is a link to them.

I only paid like 20 bucks for mine and my wifes on sale,,on the internet somewhere couple of years ago,,they are like 35.00 retail,,but if you search the web,,you can sometimes find them alot cheaper,,and after 2 yrs,,they are still wearing great,,I even wear them in the snow,,out to the mail box at home and around so they will take a beating,,
I have tried the sandals with lightweight foam, and had sticks and stones painfully poke through. Unsuccessful.
Then I made a pair with a pieces cut from rubber floor mat intended for cars and trucks. The density seemed right for the sole of a shoe, but it was not ultra-light at 11 ounces per pair. Mine were a knock-off of the Unshoes, which is a great strap design IMHO.
Here's mine about 2/3 down the page:

They can hold up to plenty, I can walk on gravel trails with no problem. I get very few rocks and sticks between the sandal and foot which surprises me. I Love them...I am trying to find some thick leather to make a pair out of just like the Huaraches indians used to use.
