DIY camp shoes

Just found these while looking about.

A little pricey, but look like they would work well. Has anybody tried these yet.

You mean the barefoot hippy camp shoes? What are camp shoes or for that matter shoes in general?

Don't get me wrong, Cody is an awesome guy
(met him at a lecture/book signing) but IMHO it's just plain stupid to be doing what he does without something between your feet and the ground. Even indigenous native american tribes of Arizona figured that out long ago. Cody is just being a tough guy and showing off his bravado; maybe some stupidity too.

Now, Dave on the other hand is the guy I want in my corner when all hell breaks loose.

Ya Cody is Awesome, crazy...it is a way to promote his business and show what is possible if one is willing to do it.

so i finally had a chance to try out 2 different pairs of these i made

the first pair i made was out of a very soft foam and they didn't work very good, you could feel every little rock and stick, and after using them for just a couple hours around camp they were pretty much done for, so they got tossed in the garbage

the second pair i made i used the regular blue pad that you get at wally world and this foam worked much better, it was alot stiffer and didn't compress or tear up nearly as much as the first pair i made

this pair is slightly heavier than the original pair i made at 1.2oz for the pair

i wore this second pair around camp this morning and even made a few trips down a gravel road just to test them out (150yds round trip) and they seemed to hold up pretty well, although you can still feel rocks through them, but it's not bad at all

for the most part all i want is something to wear right around camp after a day of hiking, not something that i will be doing much walking with and these seem to fit the bill pretty well, i think 1 pair should last me most of the summer......if not, easy to make another pair

i think the stiffer the foam you use the happier you will be

Inspired by this thread, my oldest daughter and I each made a pair of huaraches last week. We used the invisibleshoe.com instructions and made them out of cardboard with a layer of duct tape wrapped over it--paracord to tie them. Mine were the standard duct-tape-grey. She, however, opted for fluorescent pink (no zebra-skin this time (thank heavens)). As camp shoes they'd be great, but I would definitely want something sturdier than cardboard to hike in.
