Welcome aboard Nachoman.... I sadly missed the trip to the island but we ended up on the MRT for 3 days/2 nights.... Look forward to meeting you, I took my GF hammock camping a couple of times this year, she loved it. We stayed under one tarp snug as two bugs, she didn't want to hang by herself....

You will love sleeping in a hammock I know i do. My first hang was last weekend up at mrt and i love my hammock, This forum has tons of info & lot's of people here willing to help you out as well. Great times with great people!!!!

You can certainly cut down significantly on that 6.5 pounds you are carrying by going to a hammock! Even in your North Pole winters (compared to Florida) you will be lighter.
But more importantly, you will be far more comfortable
