    Noob

Hello. My name is Matt, I'm looking into the Vertex. It will be the first hammock I've ever owned. I almost always camp with my best friend and we were looking at splitting the cost of one of these. Love the features, but my question is about insulation. I notice there are no pockets on the bottom of the Vertex. I'm from North central Mn, so cold is always a possibility. Any input is greatly appreciated. And this site is AWESOME!!

    Matt:
Welcome to HF from Bama........take a look at some of Shug Emery's videos on youtube for information on the perils and joys of hanging in the extreme cold. Also, I think Cannibal, on of the forum members, has a Vertex so hopefully he will be able to give some better insight into the hammock and insulation needed. I have one question, how are you going to use the hammock if the friend cannot join you?

I'm also eyeing up the Nx-150 in camo with the XL rain fly. But I is a considerable purchase. But I LOVE the features, and it's made in the US

    I wish I had a Vertex.
I got to play with one for a couple of months and developed a bit of a crush. Insulation is pretty easy. A couple of minor mods would make underquilts a no-brainer.

Do you think the balance would totally be off if only one person was in it or are there stakes to stabilize?

You attach the vertex to 3 trees, so it is very stable with only one person. Effectively you are in your own hammock that happens to have some fabric connecting you to a second hammock. But structurally they are not dependent on each other for balance.
