Hmm I was considering the opposite. Camp at the base camp and Saturday start at Adams gap and hike to a spot I picked just south of mcdill to camp on the ridge. It will be a tad warmer on Sat night for my hang on the ridge.

Thanks bigbamaguy.
I have hung on the ridge before, The overnight low that night was 68F and the wind gave a chill. The wind will be a factor.
My son and I have summer setups. 3 season 3/4 UQ and a small DryFly tarp. I am getting a nervous feeling on this one. Good thing I have a Monster 7000ci pack, because I will be stuffing in the insulation.
I stopped at REI to get foods and a water filter. Was planning on spending about $100 and ended up dropping $230 on gear. This trip is costing me way more than I planned.

Looking forward to the chilly weather. I'm probably alone in this thought, but I love waking up in the cold while all wrapped up in my hammock.
side note: there is a lot of information spread out across 10 pages of posts. any chance we could edit the first post with all the goings on?
