    Bartram /Chattooga River Trail 9/17 - 9/18/2011

This past weekend I parked my car at Ridley Fileds parking area On Hwy 28 in South Carolina just before you cross Russel Bridge. I hiked South/southwest down the Bartram/Chattoga river trail.

Ended up Doing a little over 9 miles the first day with some backtracking and one or two wrong turns. There are a couple tricky turns so you have to make sure to keep your eye out for trail markers (gold diamonds). I stayed on Warwoman creek Saturday night befor hiking about seven miles back to the car Sunday.

It was a real pleasure to hike and I got the added bonus of running up on Turkeys both days along the trail. I only saw one other person over the weekend. He was fishing up near Russel Bridge

The temperatures and weather were excellent!! Highs in the 60's and lows in the 50's.

This area is a bit different than where the hang will be. The hang will be further north and closer to the river, This hike is more up on a ridge line but still fun!

I am planning on making that hang myself I hope!!

    Good videos and info

Great videos carolinasbackpacker. The family and I have spent several weekends hanging out at the Warwoman Dell area. It isn’t too far from the house and it’s never crowded.

While at REI last week, I spoke to an employee about some of the trails in the area, asking about good starter trails for my kids to take on. He told me that starting at the Walhalla Fish Hatchery and heading along the East Fork Creek, following it down to the Chattooga River would be good. There are several loops that can be done in the area. It looks like your videos have definitely confirmed what he said about the terrain and difficulty.

    Thanks for posting your report.

Thank you! Yes the east fork would be great starters for kids. I actually did that back in March. I have some videos of that too:

you can also hike north from Ridley field parking area and there are some good spots to camp along the river there. 4 miles in you will get to Lick log an d Pig pin falls but there are plent of spots before there

    Thanks

Thanks for re-posting those previous videos. I missed them the first time through. I will have to get up there soon since the weather is cooling off.
