It's interesting because with my 9' Bliss Hammock, I preferred it much longer than 83% (can't recall the exact dimensions now) but w/ my diy 11' hammock, 83% on the button was perfect.

    What is it

Can someone explain to me the real purpose of a ridgline.

At home I don't use one. I don't need a bug net in my office and I don't need to hang an over quilt. I assumed that it is not required.

When I see pictures it seems that the ridgeline is also used to maintain the hammock shape. It keeps the hammock anchors from flattening the hammock.

Is thie RL used for something other than just an anchor point for accessories?

Shug, you're awesome. This is an easy read for me. I'm getting it!

In the field I use ENO.

At home I use queen bed sheet with para cord in the hems at the top and bottom. This sheet has been used almost every night for about 1.5 years. I'd say it was a good investment.

At home the RL would just get in my way when I get up and down in the hammock. I may still try it and see how it effects the sag and tightness in the material. One issue I have is that with the load in the material sometimes the edges of the hammock blocks the view of my TV

I see a lot of static RLs. What about making one that is a sling on one end? It would be all Amsteel. One end has the loop with brummel and bury (about 2"). At the other end you have a loop that can provide about 1' of adjustment. That should work?

Yep, that's exactly what I use and what many people start with then switch over to a static rig once they get their preference dialed in.

Same. I've got mine dialed in but have been too lazy to just bury it and make it static. In the meantime, I have that stupid pig tail end dangling in the way

I was just wondering which direction most people tend to adjust (if at all).

Personally I like mine closer to 80%.

    How about you?
Mine is as close to that 83% as I managed to make.

The ridgeline is helpful in getting a standardized sag. The 83% is pretty close to what most people find comfortable. That's what I have on my 12 ft Gathered DIY.

That was my idea. Currently, I just have mine tied at each end with slipped half hitches.
