    Question Two men, one tarp?

I have seen a picture of three under a tarp in someone's gallery, so I know people do this...

My buddy and I will be doing overnighters with our hammocks, and I am debating on whether we should go with one big tarp or one for each of us. I made a diamond shaped tarp that I think would be adequate for bringing when I don't expect rain (just to be prepared). But thinking back on some of the Kansas storms I have wethered in tents, I know I need more coverage and tieouts on my next one.

This is what brought me to the big tarp. I think I would really enjoy having one tarp because it would give us a large space that was weatherproof to hang out in. The only problem I can forsee is that having to share a tarp is going to make finding a good site more difficult.

From your experiences, do you think it would be wiser to share a large tarp or use two individual tarps?

If it were me I would carry my own tarp. You may not always have a situation where you can both setup and be covered by one tarp. You could always combined the covered space of 2 smaller tarps to have one large covered area for you both to hang out under.

I used 2 tarps overlapped last weekend to cover my daughter and me. I got a LOT of flapping of the tarps together due to the (very strong) wind blowing between the layers. Just with that annoyance alone, I'd recommend bringing your own separate tarps and just hanging close together. You'll sleep better.

Problem with 2 hammocks under one tarp is if you need to hunker down it's alot harder to get everything closed off. Also you just cut your site selection down needing 3-4 trees setup correctly to hang the hammocks from.

I agree for HCFU. If you find yourself in nasty weather, I am not sure the both of youl could gain protection from blowing rain under 1 tarp.

Okay, two tarps. I guess since we will be tarping, we will likely still be able to see each other and talk fairly well from underneath.

Technically, the two tarps should work out to about the same amount of weight because I was planning on making the big tarp BIG! Now I just have to find some more of that super lightweight fabric I scored at Wally World.

The wind is a big part of camping here, which is why I want to have a larger tarp and/or more tieouts to be able to have a safe zone when the whole world is seemingly blowing past me. The diamond shape wasn't giving me enough of a wall to block the wind. Now I'm off to design my next tarp!

Aren't you in Kansas? I thought you just clicked the ruby slippers together while repeating, "There's no place like home" and you would end up in Auntie Em's house. Guess you don't like being seen in ruby slippers...
