    Apple bombs

Just a reminder at this time of year in the mid-Atlantic area of the US; don't hang near apple trees! This has been a friendly reminder!

Luckily I had my tarp set up on Saturday night... I wasn't hanging from an apple tree, but didn't really look that closely and the nearby apple had branches over top of the maple I was hanging from. I got basically no sleep from being bombed all night. If there would have been another spot near my son, I would have moved.

The cool thing though is we were up close and personal with the white tailed deer. I should have gotten some photos with them next to our hammocks, but I didn't think of that until afterward...

Yeah, it was quite an experience... My tarp definitely prevented me from getting a concussion

Same goes for walnuts. I once set up after dark, only to realize it was a walnut tree (which I should have recognized even by the bark, and yet, I didn't).

    Doh!

No no no.. you set up the netless hammock, and let it collect the walnuts for you!

What was really funny is I took my tarp down in the morning, and it hung there for 8 hours... Not one apple in it. They all fell on me when I was trying to sleep

Oh man! We had walnut trees at our old house. For those that don't know, the walnut in the shell that you get at the store is in the middle of a thing the size of a baseball. They grow in clusters and when the damned squirrels try to get one, they drop the others from high in these tall trees. They bleed out black liquid when they hit and the stains from this liquid out don't come out.
