    REI Flash Pattern?

I would like to make a Flash-esque pack and was curious if anyone knows of a pattern or plans to accomplish said task?

    Thanks,

    Rick

I'd be interested in this, too... been contemplating a DIY pack... I've run out of sewing projects...

Which flash are you looking at Rick? REI list an 18, 30, 50, & 65. I had a site marked with something similar to the 18 but it seems to be closed. I'll keep looking to see if it moved.

Olddog I was looking at the 18. I just bought one off the forum, but I'd still like to DIY one. Maybe I can measure up a pattern from the one coming my way.

Quest outfitters has alot of patterns for outdoor gear. Including at least 2 backpacks that I know of. They were pretty generic looking from the line drawings but could probably be spiced up with some bells and whistles if you wanted.

I really like the grab and go bag style. Reversable into a large stuff sack is kinda cool too.
These would be great for keeping stuff in my truck, trips to the theme parks with the family, beach trips, etc.

With the added loops on the outside and hydration pocket on the inside it's got to be cool for day hikes anyway. I would imagine I could fit most of my stuff in there.

I made something similar out of 1.1 ripstop, it was for all my food to be hung from a tree. It has a simple draw string and then I put a 4" X 24" head strap on the drawstring and it works great as a daypack that weights 1.6oz and can be used for my food too. I am using to bring lunch, a fleese. I have carried 3 pound with the head strap only and it works great! I guess you could carry up to 5 pounds all day with no problems.

THIS is my head strap for my 65 liter DIY pack...but it is the same idea for a day pack.
Hang it high and God Bless!!

Ok i am not an expert about this but the pattern would consist of the following:

    2x 9"x16" Sides
    1x 10.5"x16" Front
    1x 10.5"x24" Back and bottom
    1x 36"x5" Top Collar

The Shoulder straps look like they are kinda J-shaped but they may just be curved.
    This includes .5in seam allowance.
