Replacing ENO DN rope with continuous loops

    Hey all,

I'm planning on purchasing an ENO DN soon. I'm planning on making some whoopie slings, but I was wondering if anyone has used a whoopie continuous loop in the channel. I was going to use one of those and a SMC Descending Ring to replace the stock rope and channel.

Basically, something like the first part of http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4719, but using a continuous loop.

Does anyone know how well this would work, and what the loop sizes should be?

    Thanks!

It should not be a problem at all to do that, though you don't really need the loop or ring if your going to use whoopies. They can be attached to the hammock channel in exactly the same manor without the hardware saving the weight and bulk. For a loop size on an eno though 8-10" loops would be plenty and leave enough room to larks head to the ring.

Welcome to HF by the way.

Absolutely. Very common mod and much better then the stock rope and biner. My loops are about 6 inches when pulled which is long enough to feed through the end channels and girth hitch around a descender ring. I assume you want to connect the whoopie sling to the descender ring and have it act as a drip ring? As pgibson mentioned, you could simply attach the whoopie directly to the hammock.

What I plan on doing with my DN is just replacing the stock rope with the whoopie slings. You can find many videos on YouTube on how this is done. Plus the amsteel weighs less than any loop would.

    Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking about the rings because they seemed to add some additional flexibility in suspension. For instance, if I wanted to add a ridge line, wouldn't the rings make that easier to hook up?

I may just connect the slings to the channel first and see how that goes.

That is exactly what I did on mine and my son's Eno's.
The rings are convenient for structural ridgeline, using straps, etc.
    Here is a pic.

You don't need the rings to attach a RL. You can just girth hitch the loops of the RL around the whoopie sling (or continuous loop) where it exits the end channels.

Thanks for the info guys, this forum has great info!

I made the following this week, and my eno should come tomorrow. Can't wait to try out the hang this weekend.

    - 2 Woopie slings
    - 2 Continous loops
    - 1 Adjust Structural ridgeline

    Bump

I use the continuos loop in my DN channel and also on a couple other hammocks. However, I don't use a descender ring - I just girth hitch my whoopies directly to the continuous loop. I am wondering if that is ok to do - in other words, are the compressive forces too much between the ws and the cl such that it will create problem?

The reason I don't use a descender ring in between is because I like to eliminate hardware though out my entire suspension and just use soft shackles and whatnot. The only piece of "hard" ware I use in my whole system is a bamboo toggle at each end in the marlin spike hitches on my tree straps.

So - should I have concerns about all these line-to-line connections?

If you're gonna use whoopieslings you don't need descender rings but that would give you the option to use an adjustable strap for your suspension. I exclusively use whoopieslings with the fixed end larksheaded through the end channel with the adustable end toggled to the tree strap. I even stopped carrying carabiners and use trail sticks, they are always there. DO what works for you though, there is no one way. Welcome to the group!
