Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and posted a little about myself at the thread,
New To the Forum.
Anyways I am going to make my first camping hammock and was looking to a little input. I am trying to spend as little as possible first time around because either I Will really like camping this way and will upgrade or will not like it and give it away.
I am getting ready to place an order from Arrowhead for all of the below except for the nylon. These are some of the questions I have prior to ordering.
1- The first thing that I am needing help with is finding some ripstop nylon. I could not find any locally so I guess I will have to order online. I did some research and found that there are two types, a Nylon 6 and a Nylon 66, with the 66 apparently having twice the strength. So I suppose that is what I would be looking for. I will also need to make a tarp so I will need some sort of treated stuff as well.
2- Next is how long would you make each completed whoopie sling attachment on your suspension set up? We are in a pretty well forested area so I should be able to find two suitable trees but I don't want to short change myself. Seems like somewhere I saw that you should try to find trees that are 12-15 feet apart so that would give me some idea. Really I am just trying to find out how much Amsteel to order.
3- How much tree strap would you suggest having after wrapping around your tree? I plan to buy the webbing with one sewn loop and using those with a toggle.
4- Can I use 550 cord for my ridge line since I already have gobs on hand?
5- Is there anything else I overlooked? Should I add more things to the set up?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ripstop
