    DIY Bridge Hammock

Looking for inspiration/tips/tricks/comments from members on building my first Bridge Hammock. I have made several gathered end hammocks, and always wanted to make a Bridge Hammock.

Early on I was loaned a Jacks-R-Better Bridge from a friend for measurements / ideas.

Here are some photos of where I am at as of today.

I'll be watching your post, wife is trying to go fulltime hammock and is having problems adjusting to the gathered so I'm thinking maybe a bridge. Good luck keep us informed. What I see so far looks good.

you do know there's a wealth of instructional materials on making DIY bridge hammocks already ....?

Look under the "Articles" section of HF, under the "Do it yourself Gear". I've got an article there, TeeDee has an encyclopedia. Some videos I made also under my "ProfessorHammock" youtube moniker about bridge hammock history, and how to make one.

Not to mention the thread that started all the DIY bridge activity

If he reads the entire thread, he will know all there is to know.

Build complete. (minus a few tweaks) I was able to field test the DIY Bridge this last weekend. Here are a few shots from the weekend.

I'm really surprised how much stretch the webbing did. I was about 2 feet off the ground when I went to bed, but was about 1 inch off in the morning...

Is the webbing your used for the suspension nylon? If so that would explain the stretch and how you ended up so close to the ground. Polyester or polypropylene webbing are best due to the very low stretch characteristics.

    Brian,
Thanks for the info. I will have to check the specific type used. (I think i still have a package or two). I remember my buddy having the same issue on his JRB (original). If it is Nylon, will it eventually stop stretching?

I can't say for certain if nylon will stop stretching. I tend to think of it as being more elastic in nature. It will stretch and then return to it's pre stretched state. I also hope that the webbing that you used in the hammock body edges isn't of the same type as that used in the suspension triangle and tree huggers.

I have a JRB bridge hammock but the stock webbing was replaced with amsteel. So I don't have any stretch issues. A hanging buddy of mine also had a stock suspension JRB bridge hammock and he didn't have any suspension stretch issues like you describe for yourself or your buddy. So I can't help you with that issues.

    Cheers

Nylon it is......(in both the tree huggers and the body edges)

I guess I will just need to hang a little higher......Or...make another one with amsteel or Polyester or polypropylene webbing. Are there pro's and cons to any of these three for this application?

Thinking I want to try my hand at one of these, never even layed in a bridge hammock before. Do you have any dimensions or patterns that you used that you could post up?
