Kind of busy with Scout activities in October. What about the first week-end in November?

Please throw out some dates. Muzzleloader weekend is 15-16 so I am out then, but don't let that hold anyone else up if that is the preferred dates.

I am just throwing out the idea to spread the hammocking culture a bit.

Me, personally, I like the last weekend in October. A Halloween Hang if you will. Wear a costume. Sounds fun. I like the backcountry idea over the campground idea too. I am more of a kayaker than a hiker so you tell me on the site selection, I have only seen a handfull of them.

Three Springs, Homestead, and both First Creek sites are about all I have ever seen.

Oct 29, we are meeting at the Outpost parking lot before you get to the Visitors Center at 9:00 am (central time). Plan is to Kayak from Green River Ferry to Houchins Ferry fishing along the way and enjoying nature. Probably be done Sunday around 12.

If you want to go and don't have a kayak I can lay my hands on two others and there is atleast another one after that can be had.

I would love to join in. I don't have a kayak, but do have a Sea Eagle inflatable canoe I use on the lake. Would that work?
Also I don't have the necessary dry gear to protect my hammock gear. Is someone going to go ahead to the campsite to take gear there?
Where is the Outpost parking lot located? Green River Ferry is located. Is the lot just off the Ferry Road the correct lot?

1) Inflatable canoe might not be the best bet. The river is rocky in places and you will drag. I can get a kayak for you or there is another guy going that can supply one.

2) I put my pack in a garbage bag and slide it behind me in my kayak. Redneck but it works well.

3) Nobody going ahead to the campsite. We are packing what we need as we will be camping in the "floodplain" so there is no real set spot. We may even accidentally hike to an old homesite.

4) The outpost is the store (used to have gas pumps in fornt of it) kind of between the big campground and the visitors center. The visitor center and the hotel parking lot is usually jam packed with people that is the reason behind meeting at the outpost. It will be lots easier for us to link up. There is an online map but unfortunately I cannot get the inset detail that better shows the location of the outpost to show up. Thanks for the info. The Sea Eagle is whitewater rated, so if the rocks are reasonably smooth I may be ok. Have scaped the bottom several times before.

I've not paddled a true kayak before. The Sea Eagle uses a kayak paddle so I'm famaliar with that part, just a different boat. Always wanted a kayak but the inflatable was easier to transport (in the car instead of on it) so this sounds like a good chance to try one out if you think that'll work.

I'm as redneck as the next guy so garbage bag it is.

Good deal. You are only gonna drag on gravel. And will probably not drag at all to be honest on the stretch we are doing.

We are still looking good for this coming weekend. Fall color in the park should be just about at its peak.

The high temps for both days should be in the mid 60's.
