Hanging your tarp from each end is fine. However, I do add a loop of shock cord to one end (just like your tie-outs) for nylon tarps. The tarp will stretch when wet and will sag along the top, too. The shock cord also adds some shock absorber to the system for gusty winds. I use 12 inches of 1/8" shockcord tied into a loop with a double fisherman's knot.

I use a ridge line under and do a single wrap through the loop or grommet (depends on what tarp I am using) at each end.
This lets me slide it to cover the hammock if needed, and provides some support without all the stress being on the tarp itself.

Well since you moto camp I recommend Nite-Ize adjustable bungies over a ridgeline (unless you plan to camp in snow). I use the 5mm ones all around with no problems...don't snug up the ground ones too tight. They help hold my dry bags etc on the bike and then, when in camp, turn into tarp suspension. Always snug and very simple to adjust. They also fit on the hammock biners (adjustable strap WBBB) without a problem. I do have a set of tree straps for extra adjustment on longer reach set ups.

The 9x9 Kelty was calling very loudly until a AHE Toxaway won out.

I personally use a full ridgeline under the tarp (WBBMJ), and Figure 9s to secure the ridgline to the tree. The tarp is secured to the CRL with prussik knots and s-biners. I find it is MUCH easier to adjust the tarp to center it over the hammock than loosening one end and tightening the other, since the prussik knots just slide along the line. It's obviously a little extra weight, but I also use webbing suspension on my hammock for the very same reason: ease of setup.

An added benefit is that I can simply unclip one end of the tarp and clip it to the prussik at the foot end for sleeping under the stars. Should rain come along, it's a 10 second deployment.

So, to answer your question, no, you don't need a continuous ridgeline, but in my opinion, it makes life easier after a long day of hiking.

In the admittedly short time I've been hanging, I've never used a ridgeline. Just tied out from the sides with S-biner/prusik method illustrated by dejoha in this forum. No sag problems--used tarp-tensioner shock cord on the ground tie-outs for sag control.

(In fact, in his videos Warbonnet guy (Brandon?) recommends not tying the tree tie-outs too tightly, but rather to really tighten the ground tie-outs to make everything taut. So i follow his advice.)

Just got a pair of Dutch's tarp flyz delivered yesterday, so I'm switching to that method today for simplicity. Gonna try it in the park this afternoon.

Of course I will eventually try a continuous ridgeline. That's one of the joys of this obsession. You have to try everything and see what you like. Just spread it out over the years and try one new thing every time you go out, so you'll always have a new thing to look forward to!

no reason to put a ridge line in place...except for the adjustability it affords. the good thing is that with any way you go- it can be changed to the other quite eazyly

Personal preference if one wants a 2 line system or a CRL. I like a CRL as I feel it puts less stress on the tarp ties outs and I don't mind a few extra grams. Plus I can hang things underneath to dry overnight if need be. But I certainly understand the folks that use a 2-line system to keep the weight to a bare minimum.
