Do I Need A Tarp Ridgeline?

I'm new to the whole hammock thing and learning as I go. I have a question which I am sure folks here can help me with.

I use a Kelty 9x9 tarp over my WBBB and tie off each end with separate lines using knot bones. Do I need a ridge-line hung from tree to tree to hang the tarp over or can I just tie it off on the tarp loops? Will the top of the tarp "sag" during the night from moisture or dew without a ridge-line?

I do know I need shock cord for the ground tie-offs to absorb flexing tension but is it also necessary for the ridge-line?

I'm looking for the best, easiest to set up, fastest and most compact method for pitching my tarp.

Unless one has a really heavy tarp requiring significant extra support, what you are doing works fine.

I do it both ways depending on my set up of choice.

I have the same tarp, and hang it the way you describe, no ridgeline.

I prefer pulling out from teh ends

Lately I have been just attaching the ends as well. On one of my tarps I use Dutch's Tarp Flyz on each end to facilitate centering the tarp. On my other tarp I use Bloomgorge's Tarp Key in the same manner. The ends do not need to be super tight when first set up since they will tighten up when the ground tie outs are tightened.

I have another question: using 2 knotbones - isn't it hard to tie up the second one when the line is taut?

Knot bones are pretty easy to use when the line is taut.

i really prefer the dutch flyz, take just a second to make adjustments and nothing to putting up. just like tying a boat to the dock.

tie it from the ends and use tarp flyz from dutch and your done, nothing easier or simpler out there

MotoBoss eh? So are you riding or walking to camp? I ride and use Nite-Ize 5mm adjustable bungies all around...there is nothing more simple than that and it is dual use for us moto heads.
