Hi
I have looked but cannot find the formula to work out the weight of my ripstop.
I know we gave talked about it before but a search turns up empty.
Does anyone know it or can point me to it.
Thanks
Gunn

I am sure the math whiz's will chime in with the correct math but I will attempt to answer. I measure the material by the inch to keep it as accurate as possible when trying to find the weight per square yard. One square yard is 1296".
(Width" X Length")/1296"=total Square Yards
Total Weight/Total Square Yards= Weight per square yard

Hi thanks for that, I'll write it down someplace this time
You wont believe this though, I had a section of rip stop and it was full roll width at 62" and 21" long. then I weighed it at 1.9 oz and I thought, oh it is 1.9 oz rip stop but then I was measuring a rectangle. it was not until I used your math that I find my rectangle is in fact a square yard, and so it is 1.9oz.
weird.

while I would be one some might think would carry around the exact number of square inches per square yard in my head, exactly the opposite is true. What I remember is how to derive the stuff the I need.
To compute the square yardage of a piece, given width and length,
on a calculator I would
1. enter width (in inches)
2. hit * key
3. enter length (in inches)
4. hit / (divides) key
5. enter 36
6. hit / key
7. enter 36
8. hit = key
Since I know there are geeks out there who use postfix notation (a.k.a. reverse Polish) and will chime in if I don't ( ) if I had such a calculator sequence would be
width
length
36
36

It's kinda like German, you wait until the end of the sentence before popping in the verbs...

Hi
So my ripstop works out at 1.9oz, would anyone care to guess at the weight the completed hammock would hold?
Thanks
